Chausie

Description / History

The Chausie is a large, good natured Domestic cat with the exotic look and beauty of the Jungle Cat. In Egypt the nickname for the Jungle Cat is Reed Cat. Chausies have big tufted ears, a wild-ticked coat pattern in the three colors of the Jungle Cat, Golden, Solid Black and Black with Silver-tipping. Their long legs are patterned with dark barring, as is their 3/4 to full length tail. They are athletic, intelligent and are devoted companions by nature.

The Chausie is currently accepted in black, brown ticked tabby, and silver tipped colors. Ear tufts are highly desirable. They should be long and lean, not cobby or thick-bodied, with boning sufficient to carry the cat without making them seem chunky.

Weight: 9-22 lbs.

Coat: The coat is semi-short and resilient with enough length to accommodate at least two bands of ticking. No longhaired cats should be used in the Chausie breeding program.

Associations: Chausies are currently accepted with TICA.
